I was thinking about doing one of these for a while. One reason being that the “About The Aoi Tori” didn’t give enough information on me. Another reason being that I like showing off my supreme taste. For the questions I will be
copying the questions used by Riyoga using questions that I found from many Q&As around the web. Without further ado, lets jump in!
1. Who is your favourite male anime character?
Y’know, I was kinda hoping I wouldn’t say Aoi Tori, but when it came down to it, I couldn’t find any one else that I loved more than this guy right here. The way his character is built is great. On first impressions, he just looks like the class clown with a huge set of balls but when you dig away that surface and find out about Aoi’s unfortunate past, he really is a character that will leave you in bewilderment. His overall character writing is something else. To be able to feel sorry for someone who is constantly happy is magnificent.
2. Who is your favourite female character?I could have just took the easy road out here and said Shino Amakusa from SYD
cause she’s mai waifu because she made that show but after thinking a lot about this, it HAD to be Asuka Soryu. Evangelion is known for having great characters and Asuka is no exception. Just like Aoi, she has the factor of “don’t judge a book by its cover”. When she is presented to us, she gives a huge stuck up and pompous attitude. However, as the show progresses and as her weaknesses are exposed, I saw something in Asuka that nearly struck a personal chord with me. Her overall dementia is disturbing but fascinating, which is sad in its own right.
3. What is your favourite anime soundtrack?
This is a tough one. I am in love with anime OSTs. There are many great ones out there; True Tears, TTGL, Horizon, Code Geass, TWGOK, Evangelion, Arata Kangatari etc. But then I realised. What is the soundtrack that I will always listen to no matter what? The only answer I could come up with was Death Note. Great guitar tracks mixed in with booming bass/tenor choir makes out for a beautiful soundtrack.
4. What is your favourite anime opening + animation?
Mirai Nikki, Evangelion, Death Note, Steins Gate, TWGOK, Myself Yourself, Seikon no Qwasar and Tari Tari. All very high on my list of OPs. I feel this question is quite unfair since a lot of new OPs are made every season and thus, I pretty much get a new favourite OP every season. But, at time of writing this, my favourite have to be the WIXOSS S1 OP “killy killy Joker”. It did what Madoka couldn’t by nailing the universal tone of it by able to suit the show even after the shift in mood and tone. Plus, it also nailed the “Adding of random SFX in the last episode” that Haganai fails to do every. fucking. season. Just an aside really.
5. What is your favourite anime ending song + animation?
I found this one kinda tough. Mirai Nikki had Filament, Ano Natsu had Vidro Moyou and Evangelion had Fly to me the Moon. I couldn’t choose between them until I thought of “it”. Ohi Motherfucking Sama from Daily Lives of Highschool Boys. I shock myself that this wasn’t the first thing I thought of. I honestly don’t think that any ED can top this one. It’s truly a masterpiece. Honourable mention to the second Golden Time ED and the second Silver Spoon ED. Both great in their own right.
6. What is your favourite anime scene?
These questions get tougher and tougher as they go along. There are a few scenes that come close to my favourite scene that deserve a mention. The “parallel” scene Horizon, Shakugan no Shana’s S3’s closing epilogue, the scene on the roof in episode 12 of OreGairu and the graveyard scene from Death Note Rewrite. All these scenes came close to taking the top spot. However, I believe that my favourite scene in anime is the ending sequence from Code Geass R2.
This next bit has spoilers for Code Geass so if you haven’t seen it, move on to the next question. What amazed me about the scene was the entirety of the show wrapping up into a tight knot. But what truly left me in awe is the intent behind Lelouch. Leaving theories aside, he is willing to sacrifice his name, Nunnaly and friends alike to create and Eden for the remaining survivors. Of course, the proceeding heart ache of Nunnaly is still hard to watch to this day but I guess that’s what makes the scene great. All this mixed with a beautiful OST and a great epilogue, it truly is my favourite scene in anime. I was even spoiled for it and I still adore it.
Tsuda Takatoshi. It just looks like such a cool guy. While all the girls in SYD are talking about vaginas and dicks, he just wants to get shit done. He’s like the last sane man in an insane world. I truly admire this humble bastard and I would just to talk to him about the most mundane stuff.
8. What anime character is most similar to you in terms of personality?
Tabata Hidenori. I’m pretty sure that if I started wearing glasses, I would be exactly like him. Somewhat aloof, embarrassed by certain interests, doesn’t take anything seriously, messes with friends and somewhat asexual. Well, I guess I don’t have a cute, shy girl voiced by Yoko Hikasa following me around…This is suffering
9. What is your favourite thing about anime?
The way that a show can suck you in just as easily as it can throw you off. Variations in anime come a plenty and those variations don’t come with many forms of medium. Anime can make me laugh, cry or even angry. It can evoke emotions that I didn’t think was possible when watching something.
It would have to be the community. Don’t get me wrong, there are many people in the community who are intelligent people but there many more that overrate, are pretentious as hell or show off their shit taste like they are the master of anime and if you disagree with them, YOU ARE WRONG! *cough*DraconisMarch*cough*
I really wanted to say Maria and Isaac from Baccano but that would mean I would have to forget Horizon and Aoi Tori. I could never do that. NEVER. Without going into spoiler territory, their entire background with each other is quite touching when you compare to the current situation between them. The love Aoi shows for Horizon is just amazing. I really loved the “Parallel” scene from the first season. Though, what I do find interesting about it all is the contrast in emotions. Aoi is always happy while Horizon only has negative emotions. This contrast makes for some heart warming moments that can only be achieved with this scenario.
12. Who is your favourite anime animal?
This was a hard one. Not because there was a lot to choose from but because there pretty much wasn’t any. I couldn’t pick Kyuubey because I think you can’t class “it” as an animal. Those animals that just make a one noise in a different key, like Ribbon from Ano Natsu, simply ruin scenes with their…annoyingness…Yeah that’s a word. I didn’t want to choose any of the cats from Nyan Koi because they are treated as legitimate characters than actual animals. So, I went with the dog that appeared in Shin Sekai Yori during the episode where everyone’s hormones were going crazy and everyone was making out with each other. Reason why I like him is because his reaction to everything was like mine. “Wat…”
13. What anime would make a good game?
True Tears. Just so I can get a Noe end. That’s all.
14. What game would make a good anime?
The obvious answer here is Metal Gear Solid. However, I would love to see a Fallout anime. A lone wanderer ventures out of an underground vault for the first time in his life and needs to complete quests and such. It would be best if that it would be Fallout 3 since that has the best story out of the series and the ending is fantastic.
Myself Yourself. It’s a weird one but that’s it. I honestly don’t regret it because I would say that show is in my favourites.
16. Do you think you’ll ever stop watching anime?
Everyone says that they “will always watch anime as long there is good stuff out” but I don’t really believe that. For example, you probably said to yourself as a kid “Man I love Cartoon Network, I will never get tired of their shows!” yet, I’m willing to bet you haven’t watched an episode of Ed, Edd ‘n Eddy in years. I believe the same applies to anime. As much as I love it right now, I honestly believe that there will be a time where I stop watching. It won’t be next year, or the year after or the year after or maybe not even in ten years but the day will come.
17. What is your favourite genre of anime?
I don’t really have one to be honest. I’m generally open to whatever is good really.
18. What is your least favourite genre of anime?
Uhh, the one genre that shows tits and stuff but takes itself seriously. Its ecchi but not really. Its the worst.
19. Are you open about watching anime with people you know?
Only with my family. My friends don’t have the slightest clue that I do this. I don’t really care to be honest.
20. Have you ever been to Japan?
No, and from what I’ve seen, I never intend to go.
Sword Art Online. The first 3 episodes were great! Shame everything after that was an utter waste of time.
This either had to go to Arata Kangatari or Tari Tari as I was not expecting anything of the two but I got a real treat. I chose Arata simply because I was more satisfied after watching it than Tari Tari. Keep in mind, I loved Tari Tari’s ending but Arata just had the slightest of edges over it. I highly recommend you check out both of these shows as they are among my personal favourites.
23. What is the best anime fight scene?
I don’t watch a lot of Shounen so this might not be a good answer. I would have to say the “Broom” scene from the Cowboy Bebop movie. The smugness of Spike and fast jazz mixed together with some very well done animation, it results in a great fight scene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utLWiscq8d4&
25. What was your favourite video game as a child?
Metal Gear Solid. The game that got me into gaming. Still my favourite video game franchise to this day.
